Discover the Magic of the Tara River
Rafting on the Tara River isn't just an adventure - it's a journey through some of Europe's most spectacular landscapes. As the longest river in Montenegro, the Tara has carved out the second deepest canyon in the world (and the deepest in Europe), creating breathtaking scenery at every turn. Here are 10 amazing places you'll see on our tour.
1. The Tara River Canyon - Deepest in Europe
At 1,300 meters deep at its deepest point (Ćurevac), the Tara River Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a natural wonder that takes your breath away. The sheer cliffs towering above you create a sense of complete isolation from the modern world.
2. Crystal-Clear Turquoise Waters
The Tara River is known as "the Tear of Europe" because it's the last European river with drinkable water - no processing required. Its otherworldly turquoise color makes every photo a masterpiece.
3. Bajlovića Sige Waterfall
On the three-day tour, the stop at Bajlovića Sige is unforgettable. This waterfall with its cave system is the perfect spot for a break and exploration. The stalactite formations are thousands of years old.
4. Splavište - The Starting Point
The van ride through Durmitor National Park to the starting point is an experience in itself, with views of mountain peaks and untouched wilderness. Durmitor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe's last true wildernesses.
5. Brštanovica Camp
Nestled on the riverbank, Brštanovica Camp is where the one-day rafting begins. Surrounded by forest, it offers the perfect introduction to your adventure with a safety briefing against a stunning backdrop.
6. Šćepan Polje
The historic gathering point and our base of operations. Named after the legendary duke Šćepan, this location is where your journey begins with breakfast before hitting the rapids.
7. Šipčanica Waterfall
Hidden along the three-day rafting route, this waterfall is one of the most photogenic sights on the entire tour. The water cascades down mossy rocks into the river, creating a natural shower for rafters.
8. Radovan Luka
A peaceful cove on the Tara River where day two of the three-day rafting ends. It's the perfect place for dinner under the stars, surrounded by nothing but nature and the sound of the river.
9. Category 4+ Rapids
In the early season (April-May), rapids reach category 4 and 4+, offering pure adrenaline for experienced rafters. From July onwards, conditions are ideal for beginners and families with children.
10. Untouched Wilderness
Throughout the entire route, both banks of the Tara are filled with lush vegetation, hidden tributary rivers and wildlife. It's a reminder that places untouched by civilization still exist on Earth.
